Speaker Bios:

Ovant:  Inspired by his home among the world-famous vineyards of Margaret River, and following a professional career that gave him the privilege and pleasure of eating and drinking at some of the best restaurants in the world, co-founder Tom Streitberg sought out new ways to live a cleaner and balanced life whilst still enjoying the pleasures and rituals of sharing a drink.  Grounded in the art of the winemaking process and informed by the science of distillation, Tom, together with some close friends and colleagues used their combined knowledge to explore ways to elevate a non-alcoholic drinking experience to the next level.  Trialling hundreds of botanical blends and combinations, Ovant’s range of non-alcoholic distillations was created with the result of these considerable endeavours being the company’s collection of three elegant flavour profiles - Grace, Verve and Royal.  Tom has focused obsessively on the creation of Ovant, from development of the flavour profiles of each distillation (he selects and hand-weighs every botanical and personally distils every batch) through to the construction and commissioning of the Ovant distillery in Margaret River.

Thorny Devil: Peter McAppion describes himself as a proud WA local and zealous beer nut. Frustrated with beers that seemed all head and no body, Peter decided to grab conventional brewing tactics by the thorns and, synthesising his skills in chemistry and brewing, began producing some unique beers and ciders to ignite the taste buds of discerning drinkers.  After some positive feedback he incrementally withdrew from the corporate grindstone as he worked to build a professional brewery within Mandurah’s local Cape Bouvard Vineyard. After considerable effort and refinements, Peter graduated from peddling his aptly named Thorny Devil beers and ciders at local festivals to become a true contender in the craft-beer world, winning numerous awards at the Australian International Beer Awards, Australian Craft Beer awards and Perth Royal Beer Show and getting Thorny Devil into most bottle shops around Perth.  Peter is firm in his belief that beer is about experimenting, having fun, and exploring, which perfectly encapsulate the story of Thorny Devil.

Masstengo: Masstengo was created to push the boundaries of wine making with an aim to remove synthetic additives that cause harm in humans such as sulphites and replace them with safer more beneficial alternatives. Founder Tim Macnamara, whilst studying a masters of environmental sustainability and working as a wine representative, was interested in finding natural ways to preserve wine without using sulphites. He began researching and experimenting techniques of adding various natural antioxidants to wine. Business partner Ross Stewart was working in the liquor industry specialising in organic , biodynamic and preservative free wine. With a science background, some boutique wine making experience and a recently completed MBA, Ross bought both sound financial and scientific knowledge to the team. After about two years of experimenting Masstengo launched the first wine “Purple Reign” at the 2019 Royal Easter Show in Sydney. The response was fantastic with 95% conversion from tasting to purchase and the entire production of wine sold out before the show finished. Since then, Masstengo has gone on to sell approximately 200,000 bottles of Purple Reign both domestically and to export markets including Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea and the USA.
