Chris is a partner at Madderns working across ICT, AI/ML, medical device and space sectors. He assists clients to identify and protecting their IP both in Australian and overseas, and draws upon his diverse technical background having worked as a researcher in astrophysics, explosives, and bioinformatics. This helps him to engage with inventors and to then apply his knowledge of the IP system to assist them to meet their commercial goals. Chris is also the national secretary of LESANZ which is a professional society for those working in the commercialisation space, and regularly provides educational seminars on IP.

Milena is a patent attorney at Madderns. She has a PhD in organic chemistry, and has had the privilege of working in leading IP firms, as well as in-house at a global biotechnology company. Milena’s IP experience includes: assisting clients to identify and capture their IP; assessing and developing the commercial value of patent portfolios; drafting and prosecuting patent applications; developing effective strategies to navigate competitor’s patents; and advising on IP issues in collaborations.

Katherine has extensive experience in acquisitions and disposals, corporate advisory work, general commercial matters, not for profit organisations and government clients. Katherine specialises in advising clients in the healthcare, pharmaceutical, medical technology, aged care, retirement living and disability sectors. Katherine’s experience includes advising on complex domestic and cross-border transactions having practised in Australia, Hong Kong and the United Kingdom, as well as advising clients on corporate governance, commercial contracting and compliance matters.

Katie is an intellectual property lawyer with expertise across sectors including medical technology, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and engineering. With a degree in Science (majoring in Pharmacology), her practice has a particular focus on matters relating to complex technical subject matter. Katie has advised various multinational clients on IP commercialisation, transactions, enforcement and freedom to operate. She has acted in a number of global patent disputes, involving proceedings before the Federal Court of Australia, High Court of Australia, UK High Court and Court of Appeal and the European Patent Office.
